VGC-LM2S - Will not recognise Blu-ray disks

:slight_frown: Hi everyone. I apologise if this thread has been posted before but the system is telling me that the search is down! Anyway, my relatively new 21" VGC-LM2S desktop which used to play Blu-Ray disks when I bought it at the end of April 2008, is now refusing to even recognise a blu-ray disk!! This would appear to co-incide with Viao updates for win-dvd BD being installed. Normal DVDs play fine. After insertion, the Blu-Ray disks seem to cause the drive to grunt and groan and then, nothing, no messages or anything. Do you think this is a drive problem, driver, or Windvd BD problem? Any leads to a solution greatly appreciated.

If you go back to a restore point where it worked does it work?

In the Start Menu type in System Restore and hit enter.
Select a restore point from around the end of April
Let SR do it's magic and reboot.

Thanks very much for the tip, but I've installed/activated so much software since, it would require a complete re-installation of half my computer, and I really didn't want to do that!!. How about the recovery disks I created right at the beginning, would the original Win-DVD software be on there, and would it be accessible?

It is on the discs but it is not accessible. WinDVD BD cannot be reinstalled from your Recovery Discs as an individual program. You can only reinstall WinDVD BD by carrying out a full System Recovery back to factory defaults - so never uninstall WinDVD BD.

Which version of WinDVD BD do you have installed?

1. Open the directory "C:\Program Files\InterVideo\DVDBD8\"
2. Right-click the file "WinDVD.exe", choose "Properties", click "Details" tab
3. What is the "File version"

Hi andyvoisin,

as Kee-Lo mentioned try a system restore to a point before you installed the last Win-DVD update..
