Hello ALL
I recently purchased an Intel Core i5-480M with Windows 7 Home Premium. The thing bugging me is the fact that it crashes frequently when I turn it on- it Freezes and then I have to manually (hold down the on and off button) to switch it off and start over. I have Viao Care and have updated the system to see if that helps but it hasn't.
Can anyone help me ??
Many thanks,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,
If it runs OK in Safe Mode then your problem is most likely caused by corrupt or incompatible software/drivers.
The best thing to do is to return your Vaio to the factory configuration and then just add Vaio Updates and Windows Updates. Do not load any other software and see if the Vaio runs OK.
You can then add your own software one program at a time so you can identify if a program is incompatible with your version of Windows 7. You don't say what model you have - is it running a 64-bit version of Windows?
You will need to save any personal data as this will be erased.
Hi Jamie,
You say it freezes "frequently" - is that most of the time or some of the time or now and then?
Have you also run Windows Update?
Does it freeze without you doing anything or is it after you have started a program?
Have you looked in Event Viewer for any System or Application errors?
Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? Does it work OK in Safe Mode?
Anything else odd?
Do you get a blue screen?
Thanks for the QUICK reply
It freezes almost every day when I switch on the laptop- basically it loads up then freezes so I cant even open any programs or do anything This happens from the START.
I have ran Windows Update- there are no new updates currently needed.
With regards to the Event Viewer- there are many warnings on it and I honestly I dont know where to start. Do you think clearing it and then when the laptop does freeze again, I can see what the possible problem is?
I havent tried booting it in safe mode.
There is no blue screen- it just freezes with a loading icon.
Thanks
Jamie
Hi Jamie, thanks for replying.
Can you try to boot into Safe Mode please? This will give us an idea if the problem is caused by software (conflicting drivers) or hardware (a power fault on the motherboard).
Close down your computer fully. Restart and when you see the first Vaio Logo press and hold the F8 key.
On the Boot Options Screen, select Safe Mode with the up/down arrow keys and press Enter.
Does your Vaio still freeze or is it OK?
I have booted it in safe mode several times and it never freezes when I do this.
I have also ran startup repair which then restored my laptop to an earlier point, but it still FREEZED!
I also ran Windows Memory Diagnostic but no problems were detected.
I am frustrated as this is a brand new laptop and didn't arrive long ago. I never got round to backing up my laptop as sooo busy so dont know what to do
Any ideas?
Jamie

Usually VAIO Laptops from SONY have a RECOVERY Partition which enables you to restore the Operation System to the state in which it was delivered to you ... but this will delete everything you have done until now on this computer !
IF you want to restore your OS from a recovery partition, FIRST make a BACKUP of your current OS
AND then copy any data you want to keep into a folder on a USB-Media before you delete all you have done ...

Thanks for the reply Mex,
May sound silly but I dont know how to make a backup of my current OS- can you guide me through this?
Plus in Vaio Care, it gives me the option to Recover Computer- i.e. restores hard disk to original, factory installed configuration- Is this the best option?
Many thanks,
Jamie
