Hello,
So this is really two issues however I beleive the first one caused the second one.
Ok so my Sony Vaio Update updated to 5, now when I try to bring it up so see if there are any updates it appears as if it has been uninstalled, when I try to re-install it it asks if I want tp uninstall all related products
I'm going to ask support about that one personally however after this happened I have been unable to duplicate my screen on an external monitor.
I used to hook my Sony Vaio VPCF11 M1E Windows 7 laptop up to my HD Sony TV via HDMI and it used to automcatically duplicate the screen so I could stream movies, I could then change settings on my laptop looking at that screen then watch them on the main screen without any issues.
Now it goes straight into Projector mode and despite how many times I select Duplicate it defaults onto Projector, I can select extend and NO Projector but not duplicate.
Failry annoying because whenever I cannot it to any tv now I cannot duplicate, I also use the laptop for presentation purposes so therefore cannot give them anymore since my screen would remain black.
I tried system restores, rolling back drivers, uninstalling and re-installing drivers etc, tried converting to older drivers and still the same issues. Any ideas if these two are directly linked and what can be done to restore that Duplicate feature?
I am tech trained so feel free to use the jargon, this one has baffled about 4 non sony support staff so far.

Ok so I have managed to fix this, suprisingly quickly.
I can now duplicate my screen, I connected the TV via HDMI and then pulled up Vaio Control Center, selected Display, Display Settings, Then I selected Advanced which pulled up the Screen Resolution.
At this stage the screen was stuck on Extend, I had to change the resolution to '1920 x 1080' which is the recommened for my laptop at which point in the Display drop down '1|2 Multiple Monitors' option became available which fixed my problem. I am assuming that certain options only appear available when certain screen resoltuions are selected.
The first issue of the update: I can see Vaio Update in my uninstall list but cannot find anything on my computer so assuming there has been an issue updating the updater itself :S
Should I just uninstall it and reinstall with a new version? A bit risky.

Appears I have fixed the initial issue that caused the screen problems.
So I uninstalled Vaio Update using add/remove programs, rebooted my machine and it looks like it removed a bunch of additional files and services. I downloaded the new standalone Vaio Update 5 installer and installed running as admin.
I rebooted just to be safe and everything seemed fine until I ran it, I got an error message immediatley saying it was not configured correctly, then I was presented with 'Please update to use this software' or something to that effect.
The when I clicked continue it gave me yet another error message stating that Vaioupd.exe already existed and it was going to quit. So I tried it again and was given the optiont to rety or ignore however when I hit rety it came up almost immediatley saying it was complete.
Seems to be working just fine now so I can only imagine that maybe I had shut off my computer in the middle of an update and corrupted something.
