XL100 tuner problems

Hi All,

Don't know if this is the correct place for this, but here goes:

I just bought an XL100, more the fool me, and it has taken me 2 full days to try and set it up, and i am still having problems.

My current problem is with my tuner card, Avermedia Hybrid A16c.

i had terrible trouble connecting my Thomson Sky + to the Tuner card, the WMC remote does not control the sky box, the s-video comes out redish, the composite comes out blueish, and they all come out 4 x 3.

i have used the RF for the best picture, but can't change it to 16 x 9, i can't find software for the Tuner on the computer, maybe that is the problem.

I'd appreciate any help, as i feel divorce might be on the cards if i don't fix this.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi jq5,

The problem is that only the DVB section of the tuner is supported by MCE. It seems you cannot access the FM Tuner or the Analogue Tuner.

I don't think anyone has solved this problem yet - the best approach may be to obtain the AVerMedia software.

Have you looked at their site - I think this is your AVerMedia Hybrid TV Card with FM.

I see they offer technical support and downloads.

Have same problem with skyplus on Svideo. Very red picture.

I've tried via the scart connection but only get black and white picture. I think this is down to my scart convertor only outputting composite

I get full aspect picture but that is down to my plasma screen settings

MCE remote works to change channel , you need to position the IR transmitter over the IR receiver on the front of the skyplus box

I've tried to bypass MCE and downlaod and use the aver software direct under windows but the Aver TV tuner says device not found.....

Suspicion is the card only really works on the DVB- Tuner, will try and link up to TV coax antennae and see what happens.

I've emailed e-support but with no joy to date

What other outputs does your Sky+ box have?

Hi All,

Thanks for all your help,

I have so far, download from sony and upgraded XL100 Utilities, drivers, and video, and none of it helped.

My tuner problem is only a problem when I'm using WMC, when I use it as a computer, I have a full widescreen image.

My Sky box has S-video, scart and RF connections, all produce the 4 x 3 settings, the s-video is reddish, the scart to a composite lead is blueish and the RF is perfect, but I did have to move the Sky RF output channel position, channel 24, to get a clear picture, on the standard setting channel 67, the image was a little wavy.

I will contact Avermedia on monday and see if they have a clue as to our problem.

I'll Try moving the IR receiver, "tajw", did it work for you when the set up did the press the "0" button or did you have to choose your box and choose a code?

I downloaded "Windr3.exe" and " UniversalHDTV.exe" from Download.com, they are two tuner software packages, tried the Windr3 last night, worked fine (full widescreen) but no audio on the RF. will try Universal tonight, will let you know how it goes, both have a free trial and then a cost between € 40 and € 70.

What I did notice is that the S-video inside the front panel works perfect, no reddish colours, but still 4 x 3 for me.

That might fix "Blencogo"'s problem, but no one wants a lead going into the front of their equipment.

Talk to you soon,

JQ5

On Remote yes it did work automatically, you need to point the Sky remote at the front of the XL100. - took me 5 mins to work that one out!

Like you I get a signal in MCE if I plug into the front svideo port ( so much for the sleek Living room appearance....)

Have also tried to link up via TV antenna and bypass sky box all together but get no signals at all on MCE. (either ananlogue or DVBT - which i know I can receive)

Suspect we are going to have more fun next month when I try and link up with the new Sky HD box when it arrives next month....

Hi All,

tajw

I can see a lot of fun when my HD box arrives next month too, I fixed my Aspect ratio problem, when MCE is turned on and your watching live telly, there is an "i" button on the left of the remote, when pressed brings up a list menu, when you select zoom, it brings up a little picture down the end of the screen, of a 4 x 3 screen, if you press zoom again , it changes to widescreen, anamorphic, etc.

So, now I can watch and record in Widescreen.

Huray !!!!!!!!

tajw,

Do you get any picture when you connect with the second RF output?

Please find below, what I had to do to fix it.

you might try this website page, as it has links on how to sort out the RF problems, change RF outlet channels, etc.

http://www.satcure.co.uk/digifaq2.htm#2tvs

Look at the "how to change the RF output tuning", this will give you your RF output channel, also set the "Second Outlet Power Supply " to off.

When you launch the MCE and try to set up your tv channels, at the top of the screen, you can manually put in your tv channel number. Put in the same number as the RF number on the sky box, press "Ok" , then "Next", etc

The picture may be fuzzy, but the tuner will lock to a stronger singal after an hour or two.

Sometimes, in MCE, you may have to choose the channel above or below the Sky RF output channel to ge the best lock.

For some strange reason the AverMedia Tuner does not lock directly to the Sky RF signal.

Hope this helps.

I'll let you know what info I get from Avermedia tommorrow.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi All,

Talked to Avermedia, and here are the results:

Sky + does not use DVB-T and will not connect to the card, only the RF connection will work, the lady I was talking to said that Sky HD should work fine, but we will wait and see.

Now the S-video and Composite should work fine with a UK Free to air Digital box.

You can get a manual for your card here:

http://www.avermedia.com/manual/AVerTV%20Hybrid%20FM%20%20PCI-AP6.0-ENG.pdf

and installation details here:

http://www.avermedia.com/manual/300AAB3X-AVerTV%20Hybrid%20FM%20PCI-AP6.0-ENG_DEU_FRA_ITA_ESN_PTG.pd...

and download AverTV 6.0 here:

http://www.avermedia.com/software/AVerTV%20Hybrid%20FM%20PCI_AP6.0.2.49_Driver1.0.2.27.zip

Delete the old tuner driver, reboot, and install Avermedia 6, you should now be able to use the RF input seperate to MCE, change seting etc..

Each time I try to install the Tuner card " fails to initialize".

If some one gets it working, let me know.

Thanks for help

Now got sky plus working via rf coax feed as instructed but quality not briliant at 42".

Direct feed from skybox via scart to plasma vastly superior than routing through MCE and coax

S video out of the front socket provides almost as good quality

I've also found out the VCR scart on the sky box only outputs composite so that won't help.
