Warranty: OK to upgrade a new laptop?

I'm looking into buying a sony vaio VPCEB2X5E from the UK sonystyle but would prefer to get upgrade the memory myself as it is cheaper and also the HDD when Intel's 3rd gen SSDs come out.

Would upgrading void the standard 2 year warranty?

Memory Upgrade would be OK as Sony publish the method in the User Guide but I think HDD/SSD replacement would invalidate the warranty.

Why would it void the warranty? i've never heard of any company say upgrading the HDD would void the warranty. Seams stupid imo.
