video card incompatibility

Hi,

6 months ago I purchased a Sony Vaio VGN-NS30E with a view to continuing my video editing, as my 2004 HP Pavillion desktop had become too slow. The laptop came with Vista, which I quickly learnt was <profanity removed by moderator>. I edit on Avid, and the versions of Avid I had were incompatible with Vista. Last week a friend managed to make an XP partition in order to install the Avid. The partition was successful and the Avid installed, I have since found out that the videocard pre-installed on this Vaio is a Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset family, which I have only just learnt is not compatible with Avid, which apparently needs a Nvidia card.

The bottom line is, I need a laptop to use the Avid. If this one will not run it, I have effectively wasted 500 quid, as the machine is therefore useless to me. Is there a solution? A tweak? A hotfix? A cheat?

R from London
