VGN-NR11S/S Procedure for replacing hard-drive required

The technical procedure for removing and replacing the Hard-drive is needed. A technical manual/paper should be available from Sony - how do we access that information? Some person must have designed/assembled this unit.

Hi David

you should hopefully find a pdf attached to show you how to do it. One word of warning, don't be tempted to undo the screws on the back and take the wee beastie appart without first taking out the keyboard. To do this, undo the one screw shown inte back (see pic) then carefully release the tabs at the bottom of the keyboard where shown. You'll have to release the ribbon cable before you separate the two halves. Good Luck

Thank you, Supertroll.

Exactly the right sort of guidance I was seeking. The pdf is appreciated.

At present, I'm in a remote area in africa & can now tackle the problem with some confidence.

By the way, must be one of the best protected HardDrives around!

VGN NS10LS - hard drive removal

I have just this minute replaced the hard drive on my NS Series which I believe has the exactly the same architecture as NR except latter doesnt have webcam

The N series is slightly different

For your info davidp, you only have to remove the 22 odd screws on the base unit and once this is removed the hard drive and caddy will be located on the bottom left (furthest away from the lcd hinge side)

See attached pic

You do not have to remove the keyboard - I believe the NR Series isnt similar to the N Series as shown on the pdf in this aspect

Relatively straightforward job but taking out so many screws requires a bit of patience and a clean hard surface / table to work from along with a decent star shape screwdriver

I also use an A4 sheet of paper to draw out a diagram of the base unit with circles to indicate where the different screws reside and as i remove them one by one, use sellotape to secure them onto the A4 paper. This way I know exactly where each screw goes and prevents any of the damn critters being mislaid since some are quite small

Hope this helps and if you need any assistance feel free to post here again

Good luck
