Just bought the Sony AR16E. When I start up after windows loads up the screen blanks out for a second and then comes back on again. Is this normal?

Hi ajay501

welcome to Club Vaio..

Do you mean that windows vista screen blinks as soon as the desktop icons appear?

If so then this is normal, Microsoft have called this process Microsoft Transient Multi-Monitor Manager.

If it really annoys you then you can disable this process..

Click Start , click All Programs , click Accessories, click System Tools then click Task Scheduler..

Click Continue on the User Account Control window.

In Task Scheduler, expand Task Scheduler Manager, then expand Microsoft and finally expand Windows..

Click on MobilePC then in the middle section click on TMM

Over on the right hand column, select either disable...

Hopefully when you reboot you shouldn't have the screen blink..

Edit: if you use dual monitors you may have to re-enable TMM as problems may occur with some programs that are displaying on the secondary monitor..

Hi Thalamus

Many thanks for your post.

Yes, this screen blink happens when the desktop icons appear and it is very annoying. I will try what you suggested tonight and hope it works. The guy at the Sony helpdesk told me to F10 and reload/restore the operating system. You would have thought that he'd know what he's talking about hey??

Many thanks again and I hope it works.

Recovering your system would not make any difference on this occasion..:smileysad:

Hi Thalamus

You were particularly helpful last time I had a problem. May I trouble you? I am unable to open my dvd driver using the eject button on my laptop. I have to use the side eject button to open it. Is this a power management issue? Can you help? ta
