slow cd/dvd writing

i have a Sony Vaio AR51E, running Vista HP, and it's really slow at buring CDs...it won't go over 8x even though it's rated at 24x

the CDs I'm using work fine on other desktops/laptops but not on this - any suggestions?

Hi

This is usually because

1) the laser is fussy, and sees the disks as suitable to burn at 8x
2) You don't have enough memory free to burn faster, so the software burns slower to save a bottleneck.
