Setting up my VAIO

I am just about to receive a little USED VGN-SZ650N/C with Vista business installed and
Laptop has one drive - a C drive.( 160GB) .

REQUIREMENTS: I would like to make changes so that my VAIO has :
5 Partitions including a recovery partition as is normal for a VAIO + XP ( as my current one )
- C drive - VISTA + all other laptop SW
- D drive - for potential install of XP if VISTA shows so impossible as many says
- E drive - my personal data
- F drive - for the use with Internet music + TV etc
- Drive for VISTA recovery partition

QUESTION
1) What actions in order of implementation do I need to take to make this happen ?
2) How do I produce a recovery DVD for – preinstalled SW including VISTA ?
3) Can VISTA and if what function can I use to create the 5 partitions ?

CONCERNS
1) Does VISTA installed on a VAIO provide the same facility as XP to produce a recovery DVD ?
2) When I try to partition the hard drive (160GB) into 5 partitions will I lose the recovery partition?
3) How do I find the Vista unlock key from the system if this is not provided by seller
4) What else do I need to do or ask the seller for ?

Any help would be much appreciated

Hans

Hi Hansc,

1) What actions in order of implementation do I need to take to make this happen ?

1 create Recovery disc

2 resize partitions

2) How do I produce a recovery DVD for – preinstalled SW including VISTA ?

Click Start, All Programs, then Vaio Recovery Center..

Click Continue on the User Account Control window

Select Create Recovery Disc then press Start..

3) Can VISTA and if what function can I use to create the 5 partitions ?

Vista contains a disc management application you can use this to partition your HDD..

Click on the Start, then right click on Computer and select Manage.

Click Ok on the user account window.

In the left hand section select Disk Management.

Then right click on the C partition and select Shrink to change the size of the partition.

Wait for Vista to calculate, then select the size you wish to shrink your C drive partition by..

It may be easier if you look at the following guide, use the link to view the guide: Resize Partitions Vista

This process should leave your HDD recovery partition and C drive Vista installation intact..
