From numerous posts on this forum it would seem that the surface finish on Vaio laptops is pathetically thin.

I would suggest that the use of any abrasive scratch removing creams would probably make the situation worse.

I agree with William, it could be disasterous

i agree as well, u will just make it worst. imagine if they made it xchangable like phone cover then it would be much better. They have done this one cars why not on laptops.

Exchangeable covers sounds a great idea.I think Sony would love the "personalised" aspect for their Vaio's

A whole new market for Sony but no doubt at Sony prices..

The majority of us would have to make do with inferior copies.

You might try this:

Use some tooth paste on a soft cotton and rub it gently on the scratch. Don't use any "mega white" cosmetic paste as it would be to abrasive, just a standard one would do the job perhaps.
If you are unsure, you should try it first on a hidden corner, to test the results.

This method is originally intended for scratched CDs, but it should work also on other plastics.

thanks for all the input guys.
i did try some car scratch remover before posting and it didnt do anything, just took a small amount of the grey coating off and left a glassy smooth finish.
i guess i shall investigate getting a replacement case fitted though i dont expect it to be cheap.
incidentally the scratch occured from me placing a heavy(ish) book on the case and there must have been a small piece of grit or sand on the underside of the book and as it slid off the case scratched my vaio.

I know how you feel a dog chewed/scratched the corner of the lid of my previous laptop.

It was "safely" stashed under the sofa and the little s*d was trying to retrieve a lost toy.

Personalised covers? Now THAT would ROCK......
Imagine I could get someone to spray Kee-Lo on mine then let it dry, then put it on the laptop......

Did the same with my A217S..! I've got a nice 3 inch scratch across the silver top now. Oh, and yellowing around the touchpad...even though I hardly use it!

I'm going to give it another couple of months before calling Sony as by then my laptop will be less mobile and remain on the desktop.

I would be very much interested in hearing how you get on with Sony.

The case mouldings on the A series is pathetically prone to cosmetic damage and Sony should have protected these machines with something more resistant.
