recovery into other language than installed OS

hi,

My Vaio -VGN-A217M BE1- came back from Sony after a keyboard repair with a French OS.
Originally the OS version was Dutch.

No problem I thought - I have two sets of recovery CDs : Dutch and French - I can reinstall the Dutch verson myself. I know the CDs are working and the procedure is easy because I did it before.

Unfortunately the recovery ends quickly saying something like :
"Can not use this recovery program for this computer. Confirm your model".

But then I can only reboot - no way to choose a model.

In the BIOS I can read that FR is added to the "Machine name" : VGN-A217M(FR).
Where the model should be BE 1 as mentionned on my warranty.
Is this the problem ?

Anyone has any idea on how to install from the recovery CDs in another language than the installed one ?

Hi genoot

It might be an error from repair center.
Your unit should be remain in dutch if it was configured as it.

If Full Recovery NOK with flemmish disks I recommend to contact again technical support so Sony can assume their mistakes.

Sending back to Sony migth be a solution but I can not wait another 6 weeks !

Hi genoot,

If Sony placed French hardware coded ".FR", recovery in dutch will not recognize that ".FR" hardware, that's why full recovery NOK. Otherwise complain to Sony, ask to speak with responsible of tech sup/ repair center and they generally take fast actions.
