Anyone have any idea wheter its possible to connect a Z1SP to the output from a Sky+ box and use it to create (legal) DVDs from the recordings on it - I know how to send the data out of the Sky+ box but how do it put it into the vaio in a format that will record and be playable on my (standard) dvd player??
Many thanks
Mark
I'm not sure thats possible Mark.
Does Sky + output in digital format or just 'normal' analogue for TV's?
I think it's only analogue, but people have been able to extract data from the hard disk.
Your best bet is to get a TV capture device for the laptop as i dont think that there are any video inputs on this laptop, i think that it only has video out. there is an array of capture device out there that will plug into a USB port.
A PVR device such as the hauppauge WinTV-PVR-usb2 should do the job.

The best bet for quality video from a Sky+ box is the S-Video connector.
You're going to need a USB connected S-video convertor unit. As an earlier post suggests Hauppage is likely the best bet.
Murdoch's Sky output is tightly controlled (encrypted) - with commercial off the shelf products you are going to have to re-convert analogue video from a set top box into your Vaio. Shame, 'cos a Vaio would make a better PVR than a set top box.
Take a look at http://www.satellites.co.uk - there seems to be an answer to your need there based on one of the Hauppage USB digital TV interface cards - try a Google for ProgDVB, yankse and fenrir.
Many thanks for all your help - it seems insane that the machine records in digital then will not output in digital but hey thats Murdoch for you. I will work on the suggestions and get back to you with any news
PS
Pace have confirmed that the output from the box is analogue only...
