Graphic Tool

Hi guys,

I have Pentium 4 2.8 GHz in my Vaio and as far as I know underclocking is not possible, so in this way I want to underclock the GeForce FX 5600 to decrease the graphic chip temperature

Because I'm not a big gamer, so the performance of the graphic card is for me under priority.

Do you guys know some nice (freeware) tools, which I can decrease the rate (MHz) of the graphic card? Like powerstrip.

Is it a good idea to decrease those values? I mean, when I need performnace (i.e. gaming, graphic intensive needs, etc.) I will increase the rate (MHz) back to default.

So, this will save power and decrease the temperature inside.

What do you think ?

hey mustang,

i also have a 2,8 ghz without the power... at the moment i am trying to downgrade the processor to 2,2 ghz... we'll see if it works.

i haven't heard of a tool that would work on sony's because "here we go again".... because of block bios settings!!!! yeaihhhh.

i wonder if the whole graphics card can be replaced with a smaller model.....???????????????

Hi Joe,

Oh, let us know, if it works!
I wouldn't do a CPU downgrade, just because I need pure power for video rendering, encoding stuff. A software implemenation would be the perfect solution. Means to underclock the CPU by switching the MHz rate down / up (manually).

i haven't heard of a tool that would work on sony's because "here we go again".... because of block bios settings!!!! yeaihhhh.

Well, I think Sony cuts all BIOS features. But WHY??? I don't really understand that.

It's like the same stuff with HT. I cannot enable that in the BIOS. The GRT9xx Series has the same chipset and the same CPU kernel (Northwood). Only the BIOS is different.

i wonder if the whole graphics card can be replaced with a smaller model.....???????????????

A smaller model? I think, most guys would upgrade their graphic card instead of downgrading
If it's possible, I would downgrade my graphic card

it seems to be working... try it!

hey folks,

the tools i have tried before didn't work.... becaus of some bios setting that wasn't there!!!!

I have found this tool now on the internet to overclock or underclock the graphicscard to save battery power... it seems to work!!!

Hi,

I already mentioned Powerstip. I need a smiliar tool like that

I've found a freeware tool - GeForce Tweak Utility
Under/Overclocking is allowed.

Core Clock (MHz) default: 276
Memory Clock (MHz) default: 552

I'm not a hadrware freak, so which value would be fine for decreasing those rates? What about the relation of the rate between core clock and memory clock?

Underclocking should lower the tempretures, but it's not 100% failsafe.
