external monitor connecting for Vaio VGN-FZ29VN

Hi all,

After downgrading vaio VGN-FZ29VN from Vista to XP pro using the drivers and steps Sony provided I keep getting error in my hardware profile for the grafics adapter (Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family). Firstly it alwasy install 2 instances of the thing and both get the error code 37, where windows says it cant initialize the driver.

I cant seem to connect an external monitor anymore to the Laptop either because I cant choose the multiple display option as it isnt there anymore. Is this related to the above and how can I get my VGA out to work?

Thanks!

It sounds like a driver problem with XP.

I would try the Intel Driver Updater here: -

Thanks for your anwser Blencogo. This detection tool however doent give me any feedback on the graphic driver nor the intel chipset. Im still stuck with the same issue, being that in my hardware profile I end up with 2 entries for graphic controllers, both called Mobile Intel 965 Express chipset family, and both with a code error 37 (Can't initialize driver)

These errors are preventing the graphic driver from working properly and allowing my external monitor to be detected (as it seems like the vga output seems undetected)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

(screenshot language is in dutch but you get the drift)

Two instances in Device Manager appears normal.  Here is mine: -

Have you tried uninstalling both drivers and rebooting?

Alternatively, manually download a XP Driver for your X3100 GMA from Intel here: -

Thanks for your reply. At least now I know having them showing twice isnt abnormal.

I follow the link you sent me and when I select XP pro, I get 8 drivers. which ones should I install? (I'm running XP professional SP2, so the 32 bit version)

when I tried previously to unistall them, I kept getting the message that the device was in use. when I first disabled them both, then rebooted, I then get the popup for the new VGA controller. If I select then the driver that SONY supplied (not the latest ones) I get the error code 37 again (Cannot initialize driver)

Thanks so much for the help so far!

HI again.

I installed all the relevant drivers. when I unistall the controllers and then reboot and let the system detect the drivers, it still does exactly the same. It kicks out error code 37 and says it cant initialize the drivers. when I then do a registry scan, I get a flag up on the igxf item in there saying a bad data column. is this related?

Thanks.
