Hi all,
Would really appreciate any advice on this. I recently bought a brand new sony vaio laptop (VPCEB4X0E). It connected to the wireless internet in my home fine.
I'm not living in a hotel in france for a few months and every time I tried to connect to the wireless internet the computer would crash showing a blue screen with various mode options for start up.
I tried to uninstall, reinstall, disable and enable the wireless network driver (which is an Atheros AR9285 version 8.0.0.279) but this did not work.
I then was advised by Sony to update the driver using the driver downloads on the sony website. When I tried to do this the computer refused to update it and instead tells me 'the best driver software for your device is already installed' and 'windows has determined the driver software for yuor device is up to date'.
After doing trying all of these things, the laptop now won't even find any wireless networks for me to connect to and it says the WLAN connection is set to OFF even though the wireless switch is ON. When I click on 'troubleshoot' it tells me the wireless driver may be faulty.
Other people have been able to connect to the internet from my room so I know it is not the wireless network in the hotel.
I would be so grateful if anyone has any advice on this as I am starting to worry that this is an inherent problem with this model of laptop.
Many thanks,
Sarah
Hi Sarah,
There does not seem to be an update for the Wireless driver on the Sony Website here: -

Have you checked that 2.4GHz Wireless LAN is turned on in the Vaio Smart Network? Follow the instructions on Page 65 of your User Guide which you can download from here: -
