Hello again!
I seem to have exhausted the possibilities of changing regions and my Vaio doesn't wish to read DVDs with region 2 (I think... the ones that are made for UK).
Is it possible at all to make my DVD drive region free?
Many Thanks!
Alyona
Hi Alyona,
It depends on the make of your DVD drive. Can you give us your Vaio model type and the drive maker?
If you have a Matshita drive (and most Vaios do) then you can do nothing with software or firmware to make the drive region free. The only solution is to replace the drive or to buy an external USB DVD-ROM drive.
When buying a new drive, make sure it can be made region free. It must have RPC1 firmware available. LiteOn drives are a good bet - something like this: -

Making a drive Region Free is not illegal.
