Boot error - KDL-42W653A

Hi guys,

My trusty old den TV has started turning on periodically with a:

"Some applications are unavailable due to boot error.

Please refer to the i-Manual for more information."

Any ideas? The warning, bottom right of the screen disappears eventually and normal operation resumes... it's literally only just started happening.

Thanks!

Hi @slipd83,

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:

- Soft Reset: Unplug the TV from the power outlet and wait for about 2 minutes. Plug the TV back in and turn it on
- Power Cycle: Turn off the TV and unplug it. Press and hold the power button on the TV (not the remote) for about 10 seconds. Plug the TV back in and turn it on.

- Check for Firmware Updates: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/lcd-tvs-legacy-lcd-tv/kdl-42w653a/software/00346581
- Factory Reset: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00274122?link-header

If the soft reset and power cycle don't work, you might need to perform a factory reset. Keep in mind that this will erase your current settings and require you to set up the TV again.

Thanks! I'd hoped to have avoided it but the factory reset appears to have done the trick 😉
