2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

HDD Recording does not work on my KDL50W755CBAE Android TV -  and I cannot find any update????

Perhaps more usefully than just using your issue as a peg to hang a fulminate on, and enjoin you to read a great deal of this interminable thread, you might like to look at one or another of these two Sony Announcements which describe the current situation,

Briefly, HDD recording has been put back to 'before 31 March 2016 unless we can't manage even that', as has PIP/PAP, and by implication, twin tuner functionality.

if you relied on HDD recording being available when you bought this set, and/or it was sold to you on the basis that it would have it by now, then the retailer who sold it to you will wearily accept its return for a refund without too much persuasion on your part. As they will if you decide you can't hack the other shortcomings described in recent pages here.

Or you could wait......

My Sony KD- 49X8305C is about two months old, for the last five days when I switch on the TV my BT broadband goes off (amber light on the modem). I have isolated this to the TV by only having the TV on with no other input and then unplugging the ethernet cable, within a minute or so the BB comesback on, plug the cable back in and BB goes off.

Has anyone else come across this problem, i have not yet contacted Sony but will do so this week. I also have sound sync problems with this set. I have had sony TVs since the late seventies because I rated them the best, this is the second Sony smart TV I have had within two years, the other went down with a duff main board. I am losing faith with these products..........Samsung will get my money next time.

As far as the broadband is concerned, have you tried a different Ethernet cable? A faulty cable could be the issue... Sent from my iPhone

Every day I get the same, please set the broadband/wifi connection again. It did not use to do that, but it still almost on a daily basis freezes and need power removed and then to be turned on again to work. The wifi setting I mostly just ignore and sometimes it will sort itself out without me having to do anything. Johanna, Denmark

Hi, do you mind pm'ing the email of the Sony guy? I've emailed the UK head and the Worldwide head recently, plus their media and PR people, but I've not tried your contact. As you say, the more that email to complain the better.

I also urge everyone with a Twitter account to message @Sonyuk and use the hashtag #fixmytvsony. I also retweet everything to @bbcwatchdog. Only numbers will force Sony to take notice.

Can you share the details of the UK and worldwide heads so we can email them too please?

Change the DNS back to UK then locate the Sony Select app and clear cache/data and restart. You should get the apps back. Worth a try anyway.
