New Alpha 7ii not working with new SEL24240: no focussing

I have a new Alpha 7ii with a SEL24240 Sony lens (bought new in October last year).

Worked until Christmas.

Now, picked it up to use tomorrow, and find

1)  I cannot focus the lens at all -> pictures (even on Auto) all out of focus

2) No F number relayed to camera display (shows as "F--")

3) Pressing on the C3 button, error msg stats lens not attached.

4) The half-depression auto-focus (on the shutter button) is no longer available:  camera just takes picture (or tries to) on just lightly pushing on the shutter button

Anybody else had this problem ?

As a fairly new user of this camera/lens, I just wondered if this really is a hardware fault or I may have accidentally pressed a button somewhere which could have caused this.

Hi,

Found the problem with assistance from Sony customer support.

It was the memory card.

Removing and re-inserting did the trick:  afterwards everything worked perfectly again.

Amazing how a poor/missing connection with the memory card can cause so many apparently unrelated problems.

Try this:

- take the battery out for a minute and place it back

- do a camera factory reset.

Be aware that the battery is charged.

I agree with Strampke, as well try to unmount the lens and re-mount it again.

Also i think that the lens isn't fully compatible with the A7M2, you might wanna check this:
