Hi everyone,
this is my first Sony phone, which I bought to replace my Galaxy S4. Went this route because of the reported awesome battery life and because I was fed up with such a "big" phone, and wanted somethign smaller. The flagship-speced Z3 Compact was the obvious choice.
I've only had it for close to 4 days, and I'm in love. Xperias Android Skin is so much smoother, complete and logical than Samsungs, while the phone is much cooler and premium-feeling.
So far there's three things I can't figure out though.
1. By reading, it seems it's a common problem, some reporting some things fixed it, most don't Facebook Events and Birthdays to show up on the Calendar. My Galaxy S4 showed both. I've only managed to have events show up on my Calendar, but can;t figure out why Birthdays are not there, and how to add them. Any solutions?
2. Message/Notification counts. ON the Galaxy S4, Whatsapp and Line, for example, had a little balloon showing the number of unread messages/notification that the app was reporting. On my Z3 Compact, this is not the case, not even with something more "stock" such as Hangouts, which I use as default SMS client. I know it does such a thing, because the Email app does show the amount of unread emails in a orange-yellowish balloon. Help?
Other than those two... I adore this phone. Got close to 60 hours of usual usage out of a single charge, with not a single moment of lag, performance drop or Stamina mode enablment.. That's witchcraft, if you ask me.
3. Email app: I can't find an option to have the client always show images by default, instead of always clicking "Show Images" and then "Always show images". Where can I set this up?
Thanks for all the help!

1. Calendar > swipe left to right > check the bottom
2. that's standard, perhaps a different home launcher or just wait for lollipop
3. you will need a different email app to do so (assuming that you are referring to the Email app not Gmail)

Thanks for the input uliwooly.
1. I didn't quite get the fix for the Calendar... where do I swipe and where should the birthdays be listed? Xperia for Facebook is there, set up and syncing, but it's only showing events, not birthdays.
2. That's a dissapointment. I think it's something very basic for a phone to have, notification counts on icons. Can't believe Sony hasn't catch up.
3. That **bleep**. I really like the stock Email app.
Thanks! Any mroe feedback is appreciated.

Anywhere on the screen once you open the calendar app.
Also, check this
Calendar > menu > settings > scroll down > Birthdays > On
As for the counter, I thought that was up to the app devs to include that, in this case, google (gmail, hangouts, etc), if you check the regular messaging app it does show how many unread messages you have.
The Email app its really basic

Thansk again.
Yep, birthdays is enabled, still not downloading the birthday information from Facebook, only events.
You know, I also though tthat the coutn balloon is a developer thing, but whatsapp, for example, did show a count of unread messages on top of the icon on my Galaxy S4, doesn;t do that on the Xperia Z3 though.
EDIT: Nevermind. From Whatsapps FAQs: "The message counts next to the WhatsApp icon are Samsung badges.
In order to have unread badges on your WhatsApp icon, you must be using a Samsung phone with Touchwiz as your home screen. If you have not changed your launcher on a Samsung phone, you likely have Touchwiz."
That sad. So that's settled then, no count badges for Xperia. I really don't like that, but the phone is too awesome for that to matter that much.
last thing remaining is the Facebook birthday sync not working... one step at a time...

You can download different home launchers from the playstore and/or apps that might show you the count
Facebook > menu > app settings > other settings > sync contacts > Sync all is that selected?

Although it's just a workaround to the real problem (Facebook sync not fully working), importing the birthday info from Facebook into Gmail worked!
Thanks for the help uliwooly!
