VGN-BX197XP harddisks

I bought a VGN-BX197XP, which has two 80 GB harddisks, both active according to the device manager. However, I see a drive C with with a capacity of 32.6 GB and a drive D with a capacity of 34.9 GB. I think these are parts of the first drive, but where is the second? How can I activate and use the second drive?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Ewald and welcome to the Club.

Your Vaio has a multi-function bay which can hold a number of extras, including a second 80GB hard drive.

Have a look in your USER MANUAL on Page 39 to see how to access it.

Do you actually have the second drive installed or do you have a DVD-RW drive in the bay?

In Explorer, what drive letters do you have visible?

Thanks for your answer.
There is actually a second hard drive installed, it is visible in the divice manager.

The multio function bay contains a DVD-RW drive

In ExplorerI see a drive C (32.6 GB) and a drive D (32.6 GB), quite likely a haad drive divided into two partions.

It might be that the system uses the second 80GB drive as a mirror for data security. Is this possible? If so, how can I change it?

It may possibly be that the disk has not yet been initialized. To check this open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management. You should find Disk 0 which will contain C and D together with the recovery partition (no drive letter allocated) and also a second disk with no drive letter allocated and possibly marked as not initialized.

The help section will guide you through the process but whatever you do don’t make any changes to the recovery partition (approx 7.5 Gig).
