I am trying to play a video file (.wmv) as screensaver using windows live photo gallery. At the setting window I don't see any drop down list for themes; instead it says "This computer's video card can't play themes". Please can anyone tell me if this is a hardware issue and it really can't play themes (which I doubt) or is there a software issue?
Model - VPC-EB1E0E
OS - Win7 Home premium.
Graphics driver version - 8.15.10.2040
The Windows Photo Gallery screensaver will not be enabled if either: -
1. The Windows Experience Index for the Graphics Card is less than 3.0.
2. WPG cannot access the Windows Experience Index for the Graphics card.
Try updating the Windows Experience Index Score and have a look at this link for other workarounds: -
Thanks Blencogo. I have already tried the steps mentioned there.
1. Current Windows experience index for graphics card is 3.9 (>3.0). I tried resetting the index and the experience is back at 3.9.
2. Registering the WinSATAPI.dll file successful (No error message as mentioned in the post)
3. Manually created the "WinSATScore" Registry Value (set it to 400) and was able to get the themes option but even after selecting "album" from the drop down list, I could not get the video to play as screensaver.
OK, for the benefit of anyone else who is looking for a solution, I found this third party software (Video screensaver) which lets you play video files as screen saver. It uses DirectX and already installed codecs.
