It sounds as though the process has messed up your drivers. Have a look in Device Manager under `Mice and other pointing devices¿. Chances are you will find some yellow warning symbols, indicating that the device is not installed correctly.
Right click on the device and select Uninstall, reboot and let Windows discover the device and install the drivers.
This usually sorts out this type of problem.
Edit: I should have engaged brain first! Without a mouse you can¿t right click. 'Alt A' will open the drop down `Action¿ menu; select uninstall from there.
