Screen not coming on when opening my laptop

Hello all, looking for a bit of help I have Vgn-417S laptop and recently when I open it up the screen is in darkness, to get it going I have to restart it, has anyone any advice that can help me?

LCD becomes dark after a while & you can see desktop icons without backlight?

If Yes => hardware issue.

Thanks for the answer, yes i can see icons in the background, I was afraid that it was a hardware problem, I suppose it will only get worse from now on and give up all together.
