Problem with DVD player on TR5MP

I am having problems reading data and commercial DVDs on my TR5MP. This seems to be an occasional thing and does not always happen the same way to the same DVD disc, does anyone have any thoughts for a solution or is the DVD reader/burner faulty?

Have you checked/updated the firmware for the DVD drive on Vaio link?

Hi William,
Yes, I have upgraded the firmware, do you have any other suggestions? I cannot even get Shrek 2 to play from an original disc......

All I can think of is reinstalling the driver and perhaps the DVD software. I say perhaps because I don't suppose the DVD player comes into play with data DVD's.

Failing that Sony will want you to undertake a full restore a necessary step prior to a warranty repair.
