hi,
i have a vaio vgn-ar41L. i want to change the video memory. (its a geforce 8400gt m, running vista)
i've pressed f2 to access the bios, and the only options i can change is the time and date.
are there any other ways to change the memory?
thanks
devin
Hi Devin,
Sorry but there is no way for a user to change the video memory. This is all handled automatically by Vista - it will allocate additional resources as required.
It has been a few years since this could be changed in the BIOS.

so then wats the point in writing 256, or 512 mb??
when u play a game that requires more, how do u know if it changes it automatically?
u could change it in my old vaio.
thanks
devin
The version of the NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT GPU in your Vaio has 128MB of dedicated memory. In addition Vista will allocate extra from RAM up to a maximum of 831MB. Microsoft believe they can make the optimum settings better than any user and have stopped any user changes in Vista. I don't know if there is a way of checking the amount of memory in use.
The NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT is also available in versions with 256MB and 512MB but these are different models of the 8400M GTchip and not one model that is adjustable - Sony has chosen to use the 128MB version in the AR41L.
I'm afraid this is another of Vista's less attractive features.
