Hi,
I have a Vaio PCG-GRV416G. It is listed as supporting 512MB memory, and has 256 installed. After buying a 2nd 256 module, I discovered this laptop suffers the famous dodgy 2nd memory connector.
My first question: can I use a 512MB module in the 1st bank, or will it only accept up to 256MB, giving a total of 512MB when both banks full? I want 512MB, but can't use the 2nd bank.
Second question: the battery no longer charges. It shows 100% charging on the taskbar (XP Pro, SP2, all updates), but when the mains in unplugged, it dies immediately. From what I've read, this is also a common problem with Vaio computers. I've had the machine for nearly 2 years now, so it's out of warranty. Is it the battery? It's not charging at all, which makes me think it could be the charging circuitry. Is there any way of checking this without having to spend money on a new battery?
Lastly, where can I get the latest driver for the touchpad? It's currently using default XP, and I want to disable the tapping feature. I have clumsy hands and I keep hitting it when typing.
It's a 2nd hand machine, and came with no restore CD or drivers, just what I managed to get from Sony's website. No touchpad driver to be found there.
Many thanks,
P. Badrick.
I mean GRX416G. See what I mean by clumsy hands?
