DL standard that my Writer Supports

Hi All

I have a Sony Vaio SZ2 XP/C and I want to know which DL DVD write standard it supports. The Sony Support Website says its Dual Layer write but my documentation installed on laptop says its Double Layer write. I have tried Double layer and it sometimes works and sometimes doesnt which does not really tell me definitively
DVD Model Matshita UJ-832D
Driver Date 01/07/2001
Driver Version 5.1.2535.0

Hi Icarus99,

as far as I am aware Dual Layer write and Double Layer write are the same..

Your drive can support DVD DL burning at a write speed of 2.4 x although this can be less..

What brand of disc's are you using.?

Verbatim are a popular choice..

HI

From what I have seen writers tend to support one or the other not both and i was getting different answers depending on where I looked. Anotyher possibility is that my dvd burning software doesnt like the standard much as I got a lot of failures when trying with double layer media. It did work occasionally with no problems, its a bit like the problems that used to happen with CD writing before cacheing came along sometimes it would work sometimes it would throw up a fault and you have to start again.

If i need to burn large media sizes again I will try dual layer and see what happens.

Cheers

Hi Icarus99,

on checking further it seems as though DVD-R DL discs are referred to as dual layer and DVD+R DL are referred to as double layer..

Therefore your SZ should be able to burn DVD+R DL (double layer) at x2.4 speed.

What make and type of media are you using at the moment.?

Hi

I was using Phillips, luckily I dont have to burn over 4.5gb very often so its no major problem. The results just seemed very random. I tried Nero and Roxio with what seems to be random results, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.

Its no big deal though.
