CPU cooling too noisy; PCG-FR315M

The cooling element is very noisy. It runs always on high speed. I am not able to concentrate. May I change this in the settings of the system? Does someone has experience with it?

Hi amidoro

Welcome to Club vaio,

Right click your power icon in the system tray, click adjust power options and check that your CPU control is set to adaptive.

Also it may be worth downloading and running mobilemeter to check your Vaio's temperature..

[Where is the system tray?

It is on the right hand side of the task bar - bottom right of screen.

Can I suggest that you edit your post and remove your serial number ASAP!!

Hallo Rich,

with my model I am not able to "adjust power options and check that your CPU control is set to adaptive".
Is that possible?

Hi amidoro,

Power options can also be found by going to Start, then Control panel, then select Performance and Maintenance and then Power Options. CPU control should be found by selecting the Power schemes tab.

Did you install mobilemeter, if so what temperatures are displayed?

Hi Thalamus,

thanks for helping me.

Under power schemes tab I do not have CPU control, for sure.
I only have XP Home, not professionell.

What should I do next?

The mobilemeter shows: temperature 48 celsius and HDD #040 celsius.

Hi amidoro

Did you have PowerPanel pre-installed on your Vaio, as it states in the user manual that it's only available on selected models, this utility can be used to control the power management of your Vaio also.

I have a feeling that the problem is this notebook uses the Pentium 4 processor 2.66 Ghz , not a mobile processor….

I have installed another programm that controlls the power: SpeedswitschXP. I can now set the CPU Speed on Dynamic switching.
But that does change nothing in the speed and noise.
