Blu Ray Drive SUPER noisy

Hi all sorry if this has already been posted but i'm new and the search facility was down :slight_frown:

anyway i have just purchased my first Vaio laptop (last week), a VGN-AR71S and am generally extremely happy with it.
the only real issue i seem to have with it is that the matshita bd drive that comes with the ar71s seems to be soooo noisy its almost unusable, to the point where if i'm seeing a client i have to make sure there is nothing in the drive before booting the laptop as it makes people cringe!
I had heard there was a general issue with the bd drives, but i just wanted to check there wasnt an easy fix to the issue before logging a warranty call.
Any help is appreciatted, thanks in advance!

Hi haines17,

welcome to Club VAIO..

Unfortunately as you can imagine it's hard to say if a noise is normal or not without hearing it..

As you are concerned, and rightly so, I would suggest you either take it back to the retailer and compare your Vaio with another model or contact Vaio support, you can do this either by phone or via e-Support, use the following link to find the contact details: Sony Vaio Support

Hi, If you have Nero there is a setting where you can alter the speed of the drive so it's quite. There are other freeware progs available also so google it and you should be sorted
