My new Vaio VGN-FE11H is widescreen, but some of my software is designed to display at 4:3 ratio (eg game of Bridge) & if maximised the image overflows the screen sunstantially. Does anybody know how to temporarily alter the displayed aspect ratio (as one does on widescreen TVs if a programme is not being transmitted in widescreeen format).
"Display poperties" in Control panel does not seem to have any appropriate adjustments
Thanks to anybody who can advise
Is there no setting in the game?
Keelo, thank you for ypur suggestion
No, unfortunately,
there is no possibility of altering the settings within the game - confirmed by "BlueChip", the distributors.
Hi Ched,
Welcome to Club Vaio!
Have you tried right-clicking on the game's icon on your desktop or in the start menu and selecting the Compatibility tab.
Select 'Run in 640 X 480 screen resolution'. Depending on the game you may also have to select 'Run with 256 Colours' to speed things up!
The game must be on your hard drive to view the Compatibility Tab - it won't appear if you are running the game from a disc. Your Vaio will automatically return to normal screen resolution when you quit the game.
I don't think you'll be able to make it widescreen, and if you do the image will be stretched
Blengcogo & Kee-lo
Thank you so much for taking the trouble to help.
The compatibilty tab (right clicking on the game icon) & running in 640 X 480 is quite an improvement - displays the whole page at a reasonable size (if a little grainy) but as Kee-lo sys the only other option is for the codec writer of the software to rewrite some code & apparently he is concerned about the distortion of the playing cards on screen that would result from a quick fix by him
Anyway I have a fair solution now & am very grateful
Hi Ched,
Glad we've been able to help - even if it's only a little bit!
What you really need is a nice 19" 1280 X 1024 external monitor!!
