After restoring my Vaio (WinXP) I can't now access the internet.   It finds a good signal from my wireless router, as before, but hangs on "Acquiring ip address".  I've been into control panel > Networking > Wireless connection > TCP\IP and checked it is set to Automatic.

Can anyone suggest what else I can try?

Thank you

What Model Vaio do you have?

What Service Pack is installed?

Have you checked for an updated driver?

The answer to this frustrating issue is to remove all firewalls, either McAfee, Norton, Webroot etc.

select Internet explorer and type in an address to check that you can actually connect to a website. This should be OK and you can then re-load the security suite you use and re-check conectivity.

The problem is definitely caused by a firewall operating here.

The model number is PCG-K415S from 2006.  I believe sevice pack 2 was installed.  I can't access the internet to check for updated drivers.

Thanks

I can't connect to any website - I am posting this on another computer.  I get the dreaded "can't find page" error in Internet explorer.

Thanks
