Hi, I have Sony bravia KDL 40 BX400. I have the problem with the folowing, I tried playing a number of divx movies directly of the USB and its imposible to view subtitles in this way, although all of those movies have them and they are visible when played on laptop. How to turn on the subtitle?
Hi,
this is popping up more frequently now and it would appear that although most video files will play on tv's via usb stick or drives the tv's cannot recognise the .srt file therefore will not play.
the only way i know it can be done is to play the files in Media Player Classic on the pc or laptop and if you want it on the big screen you will have to connect it to the tv via the d-sub lead or on later models HDMI.
I was kind of hoping Sony would have picked up on the need for subtitles in movie files and gave us a firmware update which will allow the tv to recognise .srt files.
Agree with the above comments
Sony have to develop the firmware to enable .srt files decoding...it is not a big isuue because srt file is a simple text file which will not overload the tv processor
Are there any plan by Sony to fit the customers requirement?...srt file are widely used nowadays
Hi,
i have now raised this subject with a Sony staff member who has forwarded this on to the tech boffins for further investigation, hopefully, if Sony are considerate we should hear something positive from them soon.
forgot to add that it should come in some sort of firmware update so its not just limited to the above tv.
thanks.

5 months later and do you have any news about subtitles on bravia?
There is no point to buy hardware media server just for subtitles...I installed Serviio media server. It's very good software, read files that bravia can't read. Works brilliant. And it's free. But do not support subtitles on bravia 😕 So subtitles problem still exist 😕 I will try isedora media server, maybe that software can help...
use AVIAddXSubs and integrated subs i to movie.work only to .avi.
