Battery not charging above 1%

My M2 was working like a charm, battery life long etc. 

Out of nowhere today it just stopped charging 

I plug it into charger, it shows red light, charges the phone to 1% so I can start it 
and then it just stops, the charging light doesn't turn on after that

Only when battery drains it again charges the phone to 1% 

Can you help out with this issue?

I have tried restart button and safe mode to no avail

I can use the phone for a couple minutes and then battery drains
