Is the any external DAC with HDMI IN compatible with UHP-H1 to sent DSD stream output directly

Hello,

Regarding UHP-H1 blueray HiRes universal player I can say that the analog output seems that not offer the "premium" sound that is expected to be. In orher hand I found on the internet some photos taken from inside of this player and seems that DAC is AKM4452 ... that should offer be a "velvet sound", but it`s actually NOT (https://www.akm.com/akm/en/product/datasheet1/?partno=AK4452VN) .

Same DSD files sounds "BRILLIANT" when I`m curently listening from PC using an USB external DAC from Korg model DS-DAC-100m (https://www.korg.com/us/products/audio/ds_dac_100m/page_1.php)  that have inside a Cirrus Logic chip CS4398 (https://www.cirrus.com/products/cs4398/) that have DSD support.

The question is how to skip the internal decoding that not offer a expected premium sound and use an external DAC capable to native DSD decoding using AV HDMI separation.

The HDMI AV separation allow you to split video and audio; VIDEO only to HDMI 1 and AUDIO only to HDMI 2 and sent digital audio out.

Sony support reply me to buy their receiver STR-DN1080 that have included internal DAC with HiRes support.that s definetly is COMPATIBLE, but this not fit to me since I have a really good vacuum tubes amplifier and I need only a good DAC with HDMI IN and DSD native capable.

Also Sony avoid to offer so much information about what kind of streaming is sent audio to HDMI 2 , if is I2S in Ps Audio standard, if "handshake" between both ends are "agreed" only between Sony products or they are opened for any other brand devices.

Any ideas and proposals ???

Hi Cristianda,

Welcome to the community.

We'll check this and update the thread when we have some information for you.

Maybe some other members will have some insights to share in the meantime.

Best wishes,

Ed

DSD over HDMI is not a common standard in Hifi and there are some DSD forbidden rules for output since the beginning.

You'll have more ease to find an AV receiver with HDMI IN than a DAC that will more support DSD via USB.

I think you can stop looking for that.

In the meantime I found a way to extractor DSD stream from HDMI cable and  output it in a I2S signal, then apply it to the input of I2S/DSD sample rate convertor based on Ak4137 which was set to upsampling any PCM/DSD input directly to DSD256 (11.4 Mhz) .

At the end a DAC based on  ES9038Q2M (with I2S input) and then "briliant sound" experience.
