This year’s Formula One season is under way, with the drama of Monaco, Spa, Monza and Silverstone still to come. Time for the romance of twisting street circuits, legendary corners and screaming Tifosi to give way to battling engines and foaming champagne…

Obviously being in your car isn’t always as much fun as this, especially when you hit traffic after a long day. That’s why we’ve come up with something new - the XAV-AX100.

Entertainment

What if you could make listening to music in your car even better?

We unveiled the XAV-AX100 at CES 2017, the world’s largest electronics trade show. A media receiver made for sound quality, it has an innovative Sony feature called EXTRA BASS™ for a deep, punchy sound. Built-in 4x55W amplification – a higher output power than competitors – means music sounds clear even at high volumes.

The combination of other tech gives you the perfect music set-up. FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is an audio format similar to MP3 but which doesn’t lose quality when compressed. 3-pre out connections are there so you can customise your system if you want to add a subwoofer and amplifiers.

Convenience and safety

Because we’re not there yet with driverless cars, this receiver helps out with convenience and safety. It works with your phone via both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™. Easy access to your music, messages and directions means you can keep your focus on the road.

In countries such as the UK, tougher new laws on in-car phone use make hands-free features essential. That makes a receiver with voice control both up-to-date and future-proof. On the XAV-AX100, you can control Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™ with voice commands.

When you need to control it by hand, it has a large, clear, quick-start touch screen – not as fiddly to use as a phone – and a responsive volume rotary dial.

There’s another big bonus if, like us, you spend a lot of time on your phone. When the phone battery runs down, charge it up via the USB connection for the receiver.

If reversing round corners is your least favourite thing, it's also rear view camera ready, and the display lights up for night-time use.

Sony in-car

You might not have realised that the Sony electronics offering includes in-car products – but this goes right back to the world’s first car CD player in 1984. In 2016, the well-received RSX-GS9 won an EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association) Award for Best European In-Car HD player.
