The glint of an eye. It’s the signature of every great portrait; a window into the soul of your subject. Sony’s unique Eye Autofocus is revolutionary, tracking not just your subject, but the individual’s eye – in real-time! From snapshots to professional portraitures, the results are astounding.
With reliable eye tracking – in all conditions – explore your creative expression.
Your subject is backlit, wearing glasses, or maybe something is partially covering their face…you still won’t miss the shot with Sony’s Eye AF. It even works indoors, when the person you’re photographing is looking down, and when they’re far from the lens.
Using enhanced Real-time Eye AF, you can capture moments in motion too. For example, on the new A6400 camera, simply half-press the shutter button to continuously track your subject’s eyes in AF-C mode. It’s impressively accurate.
You can see the Eye AF in action on the A6400 here. Just watch as the camera holds the subject’s gaze, even as the battle ropes rise, even as she powers through her workout.
Another noteworthy feature is the option to choose which eye you want to focus on in advance, so you can concentrate on the composition of your shots. In the menu settings, choose Left Eye, Right Eye, or Auto, or assign each option to a custom button so you can quickly toggle between them mid-shot.
So how does Sony’s Eye AF work?
Sony’s mirrorless cameras use high-precision AF points, which are far wider than those in conventional DSLR cameras. This helps you track your subjects throughout the frame; ideal for everyone from professional sports photographers to proud parents trying to capture magical little moments as their children play.
This innovative Eye AF performance is the result of decades of pioneering advancements in imaging technology - from our industry-leading developments in image sensors, processors, and lenses, to eye detection software algorithms.
Sony’s unmatched processing and sensor technology detects subjects in real time, determines their precise eye position, and delivers perfect focus.
