volume level is disappeared on TV (55xe90) when str-dn1080 is connected

Hi,

when I have connected STR-dn1080 to my TV, the volume level on TV is not shown up any more. I have changed setting of sound bar by this help in sony website but volume level has completely been diappeared even when I have changed it to both on/off and restarted both dn1080 and TV.

"Tuning on/off the display for the volume level or sound field (Auto Display)

This function allows you to turn the information display which appears on the TV screen on or off when the volume level or sound field, etc. of the receiver is changed.

  1. Select [Setup] - [System Settings] from the home menu.
  2. Select [Auto Display].
  3. Select [On] or [Off]."

Has anybody had similar issue? how to fix it?

Kind Regards,

Kooros

Hi kouros.moabber,

I'm not too sure what to suggest here so I'll try to find some answers for you. In the meantime, maybe someone else in the community might be able to assist.

Thanks,

Pascale

Hi,

There was a problem that displayed volume level on amplifier was not at the same of TV.

I have reported this problem to Sony to fix TV volume level since it doesn't work probably (volume level increases like 0, 1,2,3,5 and 4 is missed).

Recently, the volume level on my TV has been disapeared and when I surfed, I found out that there is an option (Auto Display on my previous post) in amplifier that can activate or deactive volume level and other messages on TV but unfortunately this option can only deactivate volume level and if it has been changes, TV still doesn't show volume level. there were some comments on internet to unplug TV, restart TV, changing setup options but unfortunately non works. This is details of problem.

Hi kouros.moabber,

Have you always had this issue or it just started recently? Since there are a number of factors that could cause this you can start by making sure both devices are running their latest firmware versions. You can check here for your TV and here for the receiver.

You can then try ti disconnect both devices from the mains and the HDMI cable connecting them for a minute then connect just the receiver and the TV and check if the issue remains.

Hi,

After one week from time that I have bought amplifier (dn1080) and connected it to TV, it has happened!!

I have done both (updating and disconnecting) and unfortunately none worked.

It sees that a setting in TV has changed due to presence of amplifier and it is irreversable when condition has been removed.

If you look at internet, it is bug and TV factory reset can solve problem but I need to install all my app again that is really frustrating.

Hi Kooros,

I see you still have trouble with your receiver and TV. Let me try to help you here.

You do not need to perform a Factory Data Reset on your TV because there is nothing wrong with the TV itself. The first thing to do is to make sure that your HDMI cable is at least certified as Premium High Speed. I have posted the importance of this including a link to an example on your other post.

You will then only need to clear the settings of the receiver to factory default settings.

  1. Power off your receiver either using the remote or the physical power button on the front panel.
  2. Hold the physical power button on the front panel of the receiver (while it is off already) for 5 seconds.
  3. [CLEARING] flashes on the display panel for a while, then changes to [CLEARED !]
  4. After that do not change the [Auto Display] setting anymore. Leave it ON.

If you have followed my instructions on your other post and HDMI ARC is enabled correctly between the TV and the receiver; you will not need to use the receiver remote any longer. Use the volume buttons on your TV remote which will then control and display the native volume bar of your TV.

Cheers,

Dutchice

Hi,

sorry for my late answer. I was sick for a while.

I have followed all steps you have mentioned but volume level is not shown on TV.

I have even restart my TV and unplug it from from power plig for a while but no difference.

I haven’t touched any setting on my receiver after clearing.

unfortunately, this solution is not working!

kind regards,

kooros

How have you connected your reciever to the tv? Hdmi or optical?

Hi,

HDMI cable with ARC and ethernet support. Tv remote can control the volume of receiver so there is correct commuinication through HDMI but the level of volume can be seen only on receiver display and not on TV screen and if the receiver is off, the volume level cannot be seen on TV even the volume can be changed.

Did this ever get resolved.

Until yesterday I was able to see the volume level on the TV screen and if I changed sound mode it wouls tell me via the On Screen Display (as i have a closed TV cabinet so cant see the amp screen) so this is important for me otherwise it defeats the purpose of an enclosed tv unit.

I didnt change anything, in the morning it worked and in the evening it did not.

If i use the sky remote it adjust the volume and shows me the "home cinema volume" on the screen. However, if i use the Amp remote i see nothing on TV screen anymore.

The only recent change is I have moved house and internet has not yet been connected. I can't see this being the issue as it was working for the last 2 weeks (although only used twice in that time).

Before stating the obvious replies, yes the OSD is on in the menu (like i say nothing has been changed). Tried turning them off and on again, etc. Nothing in the manual or support documents. Must be missing something obvious.

I also notice it no longer displays a picture from the TV output on the Amp (when the tv is on the A/V channel the amp is connected to using ARC) like it does for the xbox input, etc. I am sure it used to but dont quote me on that. The HDMI setup is the same and cable in the TV out socket to the TV ARC socket.

With that being said it does show the on screen display volume notifications when on the Amp channel and using xbox, etc. So previously I must have been watching Sky via the amp channel on the TV......which means the real problem is why is their no longer a picture or sound displayed via this output.

I have just tried switching hdmi cables and rebooting everything by unplugging for a few mins. nothing worked.
