TVs can break down any time on day 1 or 5 years later, but it is true they don't last as long as TVs of old did.

Red blinking LEDs on the TV are a sign something major has gone wrong, the number of blinks can give an indication of what has gone wrong.

The LED blinking 6 times could be a backlight issue, if so this is probably not worth repairing as the cost would be too high and a new TV would make better financial sense.

Could your TV be just under 5 years old, depending on where you bought it it may have a 5 year warranty, check your records.

I guess if you are seeing the Sony logo on startup it may mean the backlight is okay and there is a failure somewhere else.

Read this article and see if any of it helps yo out,

Did you find out if your TV is still under warranty, if so contact whoever the warranty is with and arrange for someone to come out and assess the problem.

If it is not under warranty you would need to get an engineer out, make sure they are a Sony certified service

provider. The call out fee maybe expensive and the repair and labour costs even more, that is why it might be

better to buy a new TV.

Find your receipts and check with whoever sold you the TV.

If it was John Lewis it will have come with a free 5 year warranty, if you bought it on line from JL

you should have e-mails with confirmation of the warranty.

If you bought it from Richer Sounds it probably came with a 6 year warranty.

If you bought direct from Sony it may have had a 5 year warranty offer at the time, not all Sony TVs are eligible for the 5 year warranty, you need to check and if eligible would have had to register with Sony at the time of purchase or soon after.

Standard Sony warranty is only 1 year.
