Sony a5100 calibration

Hello 

 

recentley sold my sony a5100 it was only a few months old and the gentlemen i sold it to said there were issues with the focusing 

he returned it to sony and they have re calibrated the 179 point system 

 

is this possible? 

 

Also from what i have read most cameras need to be calibrated from time to time 

 

and he is insisting i sold him a faulty camera...

 

im no,expert but the limited pictures i took look ok to us 

 

any help on this subject would be great

Hi @Mowen72, welcome to the Community.

 

As a mirrorless camera, the a5100 has no adjustment for focus calibration on the camera body. However any adaptor (which often will have a mirror) or lens attached to the camera may need to be be calibrated. 

 

It's debatable whether a back-focus or front-focus issue constitutes a fault. Calibration is arguably a maintenance task, a little like setting the timing on an old engine. The engine will still run without the adjustment, but it will only run 'perfectly' with the adjustment.

 

Most owners never service their cameras routinely, as you would be expected to do with a car. As such, your buyer is stretching a point in claiming the camera was 'faulty' when you sold it, in my personal opinion.
