A7ii 'Star-Eater' issue.

Hi. I am hoping to buy an A7ii and use it for astro-photography amongst other subjects, but I have read about an issue with the A7 series 'eating' stars even in RAW due to some spatial filtering algorithm. There are many articles about it on the web.  Does anyone have any experience with this issue? Is there someone from Sony who has any comments or suggestions?

Hi @phbroek  and welcome to the Community

Sony don't answer on the forum, but I believe that firmware update 2.0

added the option to shoot in uncompressed RAW, making sure the maximum amount

of detail is resolved.

Hope this helps

Wahaay! Brand new A7R2 just arrived. Can't wait to shoot the stars.

Hi @phbroek, have you had a chance to shoot the stars since your purchase of A7R II? Is the "star-eater" still a concern, and if so noticeable in your shots?

Hi. Well so far I've been very pleased with the results  I'm getting from my A7RII but of course, I haven't really got  anything to compare it like for like.

Have taken quite a few milky way shots and been very impressed with the detail. No obvious star-eater issues so far!
