Desperately need recovery CD! Help!

Hi,

My system has crashed and i cannot get onto Windows. I have a problem called the 'Blue Screen of Death' or 'BSOD' and i need to restore the system, its the only solution.

However i have lost the recovery CD.

How do i get hold of one? I have rang support but they were crap. My laptop model is: PCG-GRT896HP

Also would a Windows XP CD work too? I am not bothered about losing my data, i wanna start fresh anyway.

Im in England, UK.

Hi Greg and welcome to the forum.

Support is your only legal route if you need the original recovery CD, but yes a Windows XP CD will work fine. Download and install any necessary drivers and utilities from Vaio Link.

1) If i used a friend's XP CD, would I need a serial number?

2) How do i go about ordering a CD on the phone? I rang and there were no options to do this....

LOL I could pontificate on piracy etc. but in short a serial number is always required.

Don't really know but try going through to any option available and get transfered. Cost of a set of recovery media is approx. €70:smileysad:

Hi Greg,

1) If you use your friends XP CD to install windows on your system, legally you need to obtain a new licence no. from Microsoft.

Illegall probably, use your friends's XP CD and use your serial number. After all you are using your serial number which you paid for.

Then download the drivers etc that you need.

You will also need good luck - So Good luck and hope it works out.:smileywink:

At the end of the day I am using my HDD installed XP installation "illegally" because I changed the motherboard and it is no longer a Sony RZ.

And NO I don't condone piracy so I hope your lappy ain't stolen and what did you do with your recovery CD(s)? YOU LOST THEM

If i cannot get the CD from Sony, i will do it 'illegeally'.

I checked the prices for XP Home Edition - £180. Thats alot of money.

I am not a bad person, but I will not let Microsoft rob me like that. Especially when its their bugs that have done this to me.

Sony is also robbing people blind by charging that much for their CDs. They must be worth billions yet they charge that for a piece of plastic. Unbelieveble really.

If you are a thief then I hope you burn in hell but if not. Go to an independant computer repair business and they will sell you XP Pro OEM for around 90 quid. OEM version simply means you get no support. Yes the support costs 180 pounds in the case of XP Pro (absolutely disgusting). OEM's are surposed to be supplied with a computer but you will find most computer repairers will do it.

Let me summarize.
1) you lost your recovery discs.
2) you dont want to pay for replacement
3) that is reason for you to ask for help to pirate windows.

Maybe you should call in to 1-800-PIRACY and explain.
