I bought my sony vaio of a friend and i formatted it to XP. I used to be able to use the DVD player and CD rom to open files and it was fully operational. After installing XP i cannot use the it no more. Its like the laptop dnt even know if the 😧 is there. I installed the firmware PSF3 software update but no results. Any idea of what to do next?

First of all, check if the optical drive is still visible in the device manager. If it is there, check if there is no exclamation mark or red cross. If that is not the case, it should be ok.

Next check the drive management and make sure that a drive letter is assigned to the drive.
