missing sound on vgn after sp1

hi all,
so far i am going around in circles looking for an answer to this, i have a VGN-AR61E which in its wisdom installed vista sp1 this week, and now the sound has gone, i have checked and reinstalled the drivers but to no avail, anyone have any clues

Hi voith,

welcome to club VAIO..

Have you checked audio settings have not been reset to factory defaults.?

To change the default audio settings, do the following..

Click Start, then Control Panel.

Click Hardware and Sound, then Manage Audio Devices.

In the sound window click on Playback or Recording tabs to change audio settings..

The same thing happened to a lot of people where before SP1 was recognised as an update a sound driver needed to be installed which broke the sound on a lot of peoples laptops. There were various solutions to fix but I found the easiest was to simply roll back the sound driver in device manager. Did the job for me anway!

hi all,
thanks for all your replies, i did try all answers but to no avail, including a uninstall of sp1, and a roll back, so i just threw my dummy out the window and did a total reinstall with the recovery disks, which got me back to new and sound working, i have also got an answer from sony support which is below for anyone else with the same problems, i am just now in the process of testing it

Please run a system restore to the point before you installed the service pack. The service pack is installed by downloading the following in sequence;
