It recognises my other Sony cam for still images, not not the camcorder:(:( ... very strange...

Re the Device Manager, I did open it, but there is nothing that says specifically Unknown Device. Would you like me to list everything that comes on my Device Manager?

Thank you ever so much!

Alyona.

2 problems...

Hello everyone!

I wonder if anyone here would know solutions to the following problems. I would indeed appreciate if someone could help with below:

1. I have had a virus a while ago and managed to get rid of it thanks to a few members of the Vaio club. I have had to restore my Vaio to its factory settings, which is something I was very happy to do to get rid of the virus and repair what it already managed to damage. However, I have only now discovered that I no longer possess the software that connects my Sony Camcorder (DCR-HC17E/HC19E/HC21E/HC2) to my Vaio. Unfortunately I am presently abroad on an assignment and will not be returning back home for at least another 12 months, thus I haven't got the installation CD which I could install again. My question is thus: After I set my Vaio to factory settings does it retain any previous software in some sort of Recovery folder, which I could open and retrieve what I require? Or... if it lose all previous programmes that I installed, would anyone know whether there is a possibility if installing it online if I provide all the specifications of my Sony camcorder??

2. Apparently... I have not got something called Active X Control... I have discovered it when I was trying to upload some photos via Facebook. What is Active X control? Is Vaio compatible with it? Can I download it from anywhere???

My Vaio model is: PCG-791M

Thank you very much once again!!!

Alyona.

Hi Alyona,

I'm not sure what software you had to use your Sony Camcorder but you can download the USB connection software from Sony Downloads here: -

http://support.sony-europe.com/dime/camcorders/dv/dv.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&m=DCR-HC19E

Follow the instructions carefully - you have to download it and then run the downloaded file manually.

If you had other software, let us know and I'm sure someone will be able to find it.

For your Active X control. try going to PC Pitstop and use their free Active X Installation Tester here: -

http://www.pcpitstop.com/testax.asp

Follow the instructions if Active X is not enabled.

Thank you, Blencogo!

You are ever so helpful!!

I have managed to sort out the Problem 2, with your help:) Thank you very much!

However, the Problem 1 unfortunately remains unsolved. I have installed the USB drive, but everytime I try to connect my camcorder via USB link, it doesn't appear to recognise it. I think this may not be sufficient as normally camcorders come with an installation CD which takes you through the whole process of some type, can't remember now as I did it a while ago.... but it is probably something to do with this specific model which is DCR-HC19E PAL.
I found the Manuals online, but nothing to download unfortunately...

Any clues? any other ideas?

Many thanks for trying to help!!

Regards,

Alyona.

Alyona,

You absolutely need the installation CD. 2 possibilities. One you find somebody who get same camcorder and you ask him to send you a copy. Two you contact Sony and order a copy of the CD.

Sorry but I do not think you have any other option.

Regards,

Indie3

Hi Alyona,

I don't mean to sound rude but are you sure you followed the USB driver installation instructions correctly..

1. Accept below disclaimer to start the download of the USBDRVEN.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the USBDRVEN.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. Open the Sony_usb folder that was created in the same directory to which the USBDRVEN.EXE file was downloaded.
4. Double-click the Setup.exe file.
5. At the "Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Sony USB Driver" screen, click the Next button.
6. At the "Information" screen, click the Next button. Please wait as the files are installed.
7. At the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen, verify that "Yes, I want to restart my computer now." is selected and click the Finish button.
8. After the computer restarts, the installation of the Sony USB Driver is complete.

Have you tried connecting your camcorder into a different usb port.?

Unfortunately I am presently abroad on an assignment and will not be returning back home for at least another 12 months, thus I haven't got the installation CD which I could install again

Maybe a odd suggestion but have you tried asking if a local camera retailer has the installation disk for your camera or alternatively would it be possible for someone to copy the installation CD you have at home and then send it to you..
