Hi,

perhaps someone has an idea here:

my system (PCV RX2D - P4, 1.7 GHz) worked fine for the last two years

suddenly it has begun freezing in all kinds of different situations (not bluescreen - just stops with the current screen, mouse and keybord without function):

BIOS startup

System Boot

regular usage

sometimes it will come up and work for an hour, then it will freeze completely - have to press the power button very long to have it shut down

I've not changed the configuration (added/removed hardware/software) and can rule out software, because it will behave this way no matter what the current system state (booted, startup, boot from floppy, booted from cd, ..).

I don't know where to look or what do do... !cry.gif|___jive_emoticon_name=cry|jivemacro=emoticon|class=jive_macro jive_emote|src=cry.gif!

i do not know exaclty what to do, but it really sounds as if you caught a virus there!

I would try to recover the system - after all it's Summer, and your VAIO needs some cleaning as well ;o)

Hope that you can enjoy you VAIO's full performance soon again.

BR
CU

A system restore will do me no good if I can't get past the bios startup process...

Sometimes the system will run Windows fine for an hour, next it might lock halway through the boot process or even before it touches the hard-disk, e. g. when booting from a floppy, a cd or even during device enumeration and memory count.

The only virus I know that would cause low-level hardware problems would have damaged the bios, but that kind of problem wouldn't be so elusive, the box just wouldn't work anymore.

I fear it is a hardware problem, e. g. something caused by a voltage spike or a faulty component on the motherboard ....
