I often worry that using mains power after the laptop battery has already charged could speed up the ageing process of the battery. I was told it could not do any harm so I tend to keep mains power on after charging. But I still tend to worry and I really like a second opinion just to clear it up once and for all. Any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated.

Most Vaio notebooks have a utility that gives the option to limit the charge capacity of the battery. The default is to stop charging at 80% but there are custom options.

If your notebook has this utility you will find the options under Vaio Control Center > Power Management > Battery Charge Functions > Advanced.

If you use your notebook primarily on AC power it is recommended that you enable this feature to avoid the 'killer charge'.

Rich
