Very many thanks for taking the time to respond on this. Yes, I think its is a 40-pin PATA ZIF though the Device Manager lacks the essential detail on the spec fitted. Seems I have to disassemble virtually the entire laptop to dig out the drive, but its the way to go on this. Again, many thanks.

Hi,

My Vista (sadly) Vaio has a 100GB Toshiba HDD, and I would like to install a 128GB SSD drive, running Windows 7 instead, I should be grateful for any advice or a steer in the direction of what to obtain for the SSD aspect. Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi jonkeabl and welcome.

Just a few notes for you:

1. Your Vaio has a small 1.8 inch PATA hard drive - like you get in an iPod.

2. There is more than one interface for these drives so you will need to get the model of your Toshiba drive from Device Manager and Google to double check the interface - I think your model has a 40-pin PATA ZIF interface which is the same as the MacBook Air. (A)

3. I think you can get compatible SSDs up to 256GB (and up to £450!)

As with most minaturised things - there is a cost implication!!

http://www.memoryc.co.uk/products/description/120GB_Renice_K3VLAR_K3E_Series_1_8_inch_PATA_ZIF_Solid_State_Disk_for_PC_and_Macbook_Air_Rev_A/index.html
