Problems with Java

Been having problems with my Java software, when I'm using Java in a games room all the other windows opened and desktop icons begin to flicker and lag. Also I've noticed that my Instant Message programs are affected by this in a similar way. I haven't always had this problem with my PCG-GRT996ZP notebook and there aren't any obvious causes. I didn't change any browser settings or install any programs, the problem only occured recently - can anybody help, please? Thanks

I think the first thing you should try is a search for spyware etc. Try spybot search & destroy from http://security.kolla.de/ and Adaware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Also empty your browser cache.

Post back and let us know the results.

Thanks Rob for the advice, the flickering and whirling sound of the notebook still occurs when I'm using a Java game, and the only way it seems to die down is when I have an Explorer window maximized...Seems odd to me. It seems to be a program conflict of some sort.

Sorry, I haven't replied sooner to let you know, hope you still remember this query, because it's still buggin' LOL

Oh, and thanks again, I've tried the Spybot and Adaware, but the problem still persists.

Guten Tag Andrew.
Observe same on my GRV516G.
A defined application scenario could show up: origin of the flicker is not hardware.
For instance:
-MobileMonitor running without flicker.
-Additionally open a website containing java
-MobileMonitor starts flickering
-close the website
-MobileMonitor stops flickering

A search on my Vaio for "java" produces numerous finds,
among them
1) Java Runtime Environment 1.4.2
2) Java Runtime Environment 1.3.1_4

What Java version is running on your Vaio?

Hi guys,

which Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is running on your system?
Download and install the latest version @ http://java.sun.com (1.4.2_04)

You can download there the J2SE (includes API for software developement) and the JVM.

The J2EE, which Kee-Lo mentioned, is for developing server-side software. This is only for software developers!

Yeah the J2EE is - but there are Java2 runtimes for users too.

Yes, your problem seems to be similar to mine, and the Java version I'm running is what I believe to be the latest: Java(TM)2 Platform Standard Edition.

Besides that the problem still persists, it's like running Java puts extra stress on the machine, with the whirling sounds etc. So, if you discover a solution don't be shy, let me know LOL.
